Seems Elder B is a shining example of why most people want to leave the WT org. He says some things to you and your inlaws that seem like they are from the heart and sincere and probably were. Then the ORG steps in and he finds himself going against HIS conscience and better judgement (supposedly appointed by HS) supporting alliegence something other than God.
He has compromised his integrity to follow this "truth". ( add a ton of bible verses here)
which is the reason why YOU started asking questions in the first place. - Nothing to do with specifics (although the YMCA thing is hilarious)
sooner or later elder B's will have to deal with his own CRISIS OF CONSCIENCE.
wow - what a title!
I wish you both the best in whatever comes your way.

I can vouch for the email going around - it prompted my spouse to order the book, and is reading it now.
It is very pro NWT, but has an appendix about the inaccuracy of adding the word Jehovah to the New Testament.
One thing I noticed in the book is how he talks about translation verses interpretation thenalso gives his reasons for agreeing with a certain translation using his interpretation!
also for anyone who has to deal with comments from Jeopardy watchers like... "see the JW translation is the best - na na nana na" REMIND THEM that this same expert show has the Fall of Jerusalem at 586. Eyeballs were popping the day that question was on!
and Jason David BeDuhn is baffled why they'd add the jehovah word to the NT when it clearly does not belong. Something that JWs love to brag about.

I thought it was very good as well. Unbelievable history - amazing how they became as large as they are. But with the different viewpoints it all makes sense and very revealing about the human need to belong to something bigger than they can create themselves. i.e. it must be true because we are being persecuted logic. I thought it was filled with similar parallels that we see everyday in the JW mindset.
Curious that so many religions got their start in the US around that time spouting the same "this is the truth" "follow me" "I(we) are the prophet" "God has revealed" .... was there something in the water?

HELP ME locate the "Heart Transplant" weirdness article in the Watchtower
by Terry ini can't remember what year; i think it was the early 70's.. it was the strangest article in watchtower history (and that is saying alot!)..
to wit: people who get heart transplants also get the personality of the donor!.
i kid you not.

When I first read the "how is your Heart?" article from the old WT, I googled the source from para.5 - Dr. D.E. Schneider... as well as other links to a HealthMath study linking emotions/brain/heart - and the first thing I thought of was dianetics and the smooooooth marketing tools of scientology.

This is how messed up it was...
by themonster123 ini've just been thinking about jwd and how messed it up it is how the witnesses twisted things in my mind so i totally got mind-warped....what am i talking about, you ask?
well, whenever someone has a quote on here from watchtower literature from years past (like from the 1970s or 1960s etc) proving that witnesses have taught/do teach this or that in the past, i automatically discredit that quote necause how i was taught as a witness was that whole new light thing-meaning...... "oh, well, things have changed-our teachings have changed, we no longer believe or teach this, this, and that anymore,"- i'm so brainwashed that when i read old quotes on here where people prove to say that witnesses taught this or that, it's like i kind of go "oh well that quote doesnt' matter," but in reality.......... jws should take responsibility for everything they've taught!!!
and not just keep saying, "well, that was then-this is now.. ...i mean, from an outsider's view point, they would say "oh, so witnesses teach this?

Just once I'd like to hear a JW say that we don't go by the bible anymore because that was old light.
How on EARTH can books be around for more than 2000 years and stay "current" , yet something written in 1968 by the only channel being used by god not even last 20 years.
boggles the free thinking mind doesn't it?

The more I research the word "Jehovah" the more I feel that we shouldn't...
by A-Team in..call the god of israel/abraham, issac and jacob that.
let's get that straight.
i still believe in ywhw and jesus, but he term "jehovah" may be wrong, imo.

I will vouch for this. I used to bring this up all the time - no one would comment haha.
In Strongs Concordance - #1943 - hovah - mischief or ruin.
SO WHAT! if the sound Jah + hovah = the name the WT & JWs call their god.
exactly - maybe means this, or that yada yada the point is - in whatever language, spoken by whoever - the Hebrew translation for the sound hovah is mischief or ruin.
when you put all the stuff together - jews, OT, hebrew, bible, israel, chosen ones, etc - you'd think they could've picked a different word to repeat over and over ad nauseum, showing how they must be the only ones with the truthâ„¢
cause they use the real name. LOL
Is there anyone here who speaks hebrew who is offended by hearing this willynilly for the Name of God?
